Doing it again

Kmart is honoring double coupons again through Saturday, November 1.

Take advantage of this offer, but make sure you are paying attention (both to price and coupon scanning)

I saved over $36 in coupons last time. Yep, $36!

Everything I purchased there I normally buy at the bulls-eye and some I purchase store brand.

B . U . T .
I was able to buy these items, name brand at Kmart CHEAPER because of my double coupons.

Happy Shopping!!!!

P.S. Diapers are not such a good deal there unless your original coupon is worth $1.50 or more!!

Aldi's

ROCKS!!!

Ok, for any readers that have held on through the dry spell here on the cheap skate housewife, err... sparing spender, I have a great welcome back post.

Aldi's has FINALLY opened.

YES. THEY. ARE. THAT. GOOD!

Now, if you don't know anything about Aldi's then let me fill you in. 90% of their stock is their brand ONLY! You pay a quarter for your shopping cart but get it back upon return of cart. You either have to bring your own bags, find an empty box (these are free) or pay for their bags; $.06 for paper and $.10 for plastic. You have to bay your own groceries (this slightly OCD personality loves that). There is no customer service desk, anyone can and will help you. The store is 1/3rd the size of a regular grocery store. There aisles are wider but fewer by far.

Did I mention I loved it?

I went opening day and picked up a few random things that we are pretty particular about as far as quality and a few essentials.

HANDS DOWN THEIR PRICES ROCK AND THEIR QUALITY IS AWESOME.

I saved $.80 a gallon on milk alone. I saved over $1.00 on a pound of cheese. I saved over $1.50 on chips. Banana's are $.24 PER POUND! Even hubby (who is VERY picky about his cereal) Loved his cereal, which was over $2.00 cheaper than our normal grocery store!!!!

This weekend we are going to do full blown grocery shopping there. I am going to try to only shop there for the month of November and see how much I save. You bet I will let you know. I am sure I will post along the way as things spark my interest, and hopefully yours.

If you don't have an Aldi's near you, I send my condolences. If you do and haven't tried it, what are you waiting for?! If you do and you go frequently, please share your joy with my readers!!!!

The Brisk Economic Recovery Plan

I SO WISH I COULD TAKE CREDIT FOR THIS IDEA!!!!!!!!!The Brisk Economic Recovery Plan

Hi Pals,

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG and all the others.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, lets assume there are 200,000,000 bona fide U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child.
So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion

that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.

A husband and wife has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage, housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans, what a great boost to new grads.
Put away money for college, it'll be there Save in a bank, create money to loan to entrepreneurs. Buy a new car, create jobs
Invest in the market, capital drives growth
Pay for your parents' medical insurance, health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean, or else
Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1 000.00 ("vote buy") economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG, liquidate it. Sell off its parts.Let American General go back to being American General.Sell off the real estate.Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can never work. But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party! How do you spell Economic Boom?I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC.And remember, The Brisk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that of f my chest.

Kindest personal regards, Brisk T. J. Birkenmeier, A Creative Guy & Citizen of the Republic
PS: Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it's either good for a laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought on how to best use $85 Billion!!

SPEND THE DAYS

counting down until next week instead of counting money!

Because I am a nice girl who is rather impatient herself, here is a sneak peek at next week

Can you guess the topic?? HMMMMMMMM.........................

CLEANERS

The 1st save-you-money installment is on cleaning products. Do you realize how much money you spend on cleaners? Really????

Everyday household cleaners are not only bad for the environment but also your wallet. Here are some CHEAP ways to save and still have a clean house.

*Multipurpose cleaner (I use this FOR everything)
1 part white vinegar to 4 parts water

*Dishwasher rinse agent
straight white vinegar (works just as good as jet dry)

*Swiffer wetjet cleaner
1 part white vinegar, 4 parts water, couple drops dawn and lemon juice for smell

*Swiffer wetjet cleaning pads
Baby changing table waterproof pads (they automatically stick to the velcro). You can use, wash, reuse.

*Sink cleaner, de-greaser, deodorizer
pour baking soda down drain, let sit for 2 minutes, rinse with straight white vinegar (you also get a cool volcano effect:-)

*Bathroom cleaner
bleach and water. Really, it is that easy. Mix into spray bottle with lemon juice for smell!

*Laundry soap
2 parts Ivory soap grated, 1 part washing soda, 1 part borax. Use 1 TABLESPOON PER LOAD! Can scent with any essential oil you like, add to water with soap before clothes. DO NOT NEED FABRIC SOFTENER!!!!!

*Vegetable spray/cleaner/rinse
water (5) and grapefruit seed extract (1)

*Grout cleaner
Baking soda and water. Make a paste and scrub.

*Window cleaner
water and white vinegar. Newspaper for wiping window to relieve streaks.

*Dishwasher detergent
store brand powdered dishwasher soap and equal parts washing soda

I think this is all I have in my arsenal for now. I will add more as I come across them. Please readers, feel free to add any CLEANING tricks, I mean, tips that you may have!

Look back next Saturday for other ways to be a sparing spender.
